Happy 2nd January

There’s something very wrong about having to serve Katherine breakfast in bed when said breakfast consists of a mug of Darjeeling with some manner of ‘total quality management’ catchphrase on the side and several slices of Christstollen. But the poor dear does have something of a hangover so I know I should be kind. At least she claims to have a hangover and now that I think about it I’m not entirely convinced on that front. Hangovers don’t usually involve sitting up in bed with a laptop to check the stockmarket or whatever it is she’s currently doing.
I would have liked to see her try this sort of thing when Celia was around; she would never have stood for any of this nonsense. From either of us. Though she might not have minded a slice to stollen in the morning, but only if accompanied by something like a Christmas spiced tea which really would have been the more sensible option.

Do I really have to go back to New York, I wonder. I suppose Croquet might miss me if I don’t.
